Pensioner kills Burglar

13/11/2020

The story is still being dragged out on the internet. Technically I'm a pensioner; the government sends me money every 4 weeks, so here is my take.

So one morning, two young men burst into my house. One is armed with a screwdriver, threatens me and forces me into my kitchen. The other goes about his regular business of searching my house for valuables.

I don't know this man. I didn't invite him in. I don't know if he is sane or if he might decide to kill me just for the sheer hell of it. Worse, my wife is due back at any minute. Do I wait to find out or do I take a proactive stance. I make my decision and launch a counter-attack.

This is not a fair fight. He is half my age; he is fitter, faster and stronger than I am. Oh and I'm unarmed. Somehow, miraculously, I manage to grab the screwdriver. In the scuffle it enters his chest and kills him. I am arrested on a charge of murder and locked up (subsequently released without further action). I am now frightened to return to my home, or even the area where I live, in case of reprisals from the burglar's crooked family.

Meanwhile, the internet continues to run interviews with the burglar's relatives. "He was such a nice man". "He didn't deserve to die". Maybe someone reading this can make sense of it. I can't.
